Orly Lobel is the Warren Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of San Diego and founding director of the Center for Employment and Labor Policy (CELP). Lobel is a critically acclaimed and award winning author of seven books and numerous articles. Her books have been translated to many languages, including Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Hebrew, and Romanian. Her most recent book, The Equality Machine: Harnessing Tomorrow’s Technologies for a Brighter, More Inclusive Future is an Economist Best Book of the Year. Lobel has been named the most cited scholar in employment law and one of the most cited legal scholars in law and technology the country. She is a prolifi c speaker, commentator, and scholar whose work has shaped policy and infl uenced industry around the world. She served on President Obama’s policy team on innovation and labor market competition and has advised federal and state agencies on technology policy. She has also served as a G7 representative of the World Economic Forum and has worked with the United Nations on digital equality. Her scholarship has been supported by grants, including from the AI and Humanities Project.
